Henceforth, Nigerian Medical Students to Spend 11years in University

Medical courses in Nigeria has now been extended to 11 years. The National Universities Commission NUC made the announcement on Monday through the executive secretary of the commission, Professor Julius Okojie.

During the maiden matriculation of the University of Medical Science, Ondo State, Okojie said the new development was necessary in order to enable the students mature psychologically for the profession. continue.......

He explained that in 2015 document for the training of medical students made provision for students to spend the first four years in studying basic sciences in University after which they would proceed to the medical school to spend another seven years.

He stressed the need for adequate funding of medical training and pratice, admonished the management of the institution to ensure that the money earmarked for the development of the institution was used for the purpose it was meant for.

Eleven years? no offence but those teaching them spent six years (while many ended up sending over ten years) and they have MANY years experience as professionals but they are still far from skilled.. In other words, the official years will be 11 while the unofficial will be about 20 years,, after all the strikes, carry overs, missing results etc...What a Mess!
